Mom and dad discussing Heating and A/C use during their long distance relationship.

We’ve been together so long that we can all agree on what temperature control to leave our air conditioner at

My mom and her new husband met in an online forum. When they first met, they were living on opposite sides of the country. My mom was living in the south while he lived further north. Because they were on the same coast, they didn’t have to worry about different time zones, so they were able to organize their free time pretty easily for one another. They’d talk about all sorts of things, all the time. I’d hear my mom on the phone for hours at a time, like a teenager. The main thing I’d hear them talk about was how they coped with the temperatures they were exposed to because of where they lived. Living in the south our entire life, my mom wasn’t used to the cold, and she’d run our heating any time the temperature dropped outside. Winters were rough for us, we’d always wrack up a huge electric bill from our oil furnace being run so often. We always felt it was better than feeling cold. Meanwhile, her new husband found our problems to be quite laughable. He would always brag about how he never turned on an oil furnace when it was only in the 50s outside. However, my mom pointed out to him that he’s never really had to experience a hot summer. She bet that he’d have to crank up the cooling on his air conditioner if he ever did. Where we lived, the temperature outside had a tendency to reach temperatures as high as 100 degrees Fahrenheit. . Eventually they ended up meeting because they wanted to see if they could both endure the others most extreme temperatures outside. It was over from there, they fell even more in love once they met and continued to meet up. Eventually we all moved somewhere in the middle of the north and south regions. We’ve been together so long that we can all agree on what temperature control to leave our air conditioner at. I’m very happy my mom met my new dad. They’re great together.
